Qualities of Good Writing Assignment

      A piece of writing that has made a significant impact on my life is the story, The Old Man And The Sea by Ernest Hemingway. The story is fairly short and simple, but the message behind is it quite inspiring. I read it a few years ago in High School, and I really appreciated it a few pages in. Although it’s an older story, it still holds up in the modern day of the twenty first century. The story taught me to enjoy life for what it is, spend more time with the people around me, and be more patient. The old man and the young boy woke up almost every day very early to go fishing and discuss things together, enjoying each other’s company. They appreciated the nature, the water, and the fish that lived in the sea. While out fishing, they knew that patience was key since the fish took time to attract to their bait like magnets. When the old man valued his time out in the ocean, especially when he was out there for days on end trying to catch the “big fish” even though he knew his days were becoming shorter. These are all qualities that drew me specifically to this story.
